In this build, the Portland stone takes the form of innovative load-bearing limestone piers, which support the internal steel beams. The façade reinterprets the idea of stacking stone, with openings staggered across each elevation (each window within the elevations varies in its location and proportion from the one above), and in doing so it challenges the convention of how stone is used in building and construction. This project exemplifies the large-scale use of high-quality materials and this combination creates a distinct identity for the building.

The aggregates can be a variety of different colours, which are then highlighted in the exposed areas. This creates a new way to adapt the surface of the concrete panel to respond to different contexts and site conditions. Ductile concrete: in 2005, a new type of fibre-reinforced ductile concrete was used for the first time in Michigan, USA.
