No-Name were built of heavy oak and measured 21 feet in length. Carrying them around falls or lining them down rapids, the men would soon curse their bulk and weight. The fourth boat, only 16 feet long and made of pine, was light and maneuverable. This was Powell's pilot boat, which he named the Emma Dean in honor of his wife.
