Un exemple parmi d’autres, au chapitre douze, lorsqu’il décrit les cérémonies de préparation à la guerre, Champlain écrit : « […] les femmes sſe deſpouillerent toutes nues, parees de leurs plus beaux Matachias […]1 » (Champlain, [1603] : 331)2.

Autrement dit, l’adhérence aux normes du texte source détermine l’adéquation de la traduction au texte source (Toury, 1995 : 56-57).
