If Cruikshank's illustration was a reprimand, two sets of illustrations by Phiz (Hablot K. Browne) from the Illustrated London News of 1848 25 Boxing Day 2S and the Illustrated Times of 1855 emphasized pleasure and communality. This is generally true of the audiences in the pit and boxes, which clearly include a number of families with children.
