When my father came back my baby sister was about two years old, and I was about six. My little baby sister was afraid of him. I was a little shy of him myself. That was the only time that he was away from home during my childhood. I don’t think he ever went to the woods again after that. He made some money that time. He made about $150, but he had to buy some things from the store at Wittenberg. He brought boots for himself, and that used to cost about fifteen or sixteen dollars. I always remember what a nice pair of shoes I got that time.
