At the seaward end of the dromos was a complex consisting of a possible gateway, a rectangular structure identified as a temple, the so-called fountain court, and a hall. The plan of this complex is difficult to visualize because the various components do not share the same orientation or elevation. The entrance court before the temple was originally entered from the seaward end through a gateway that, judging from the shape of its heavy foundations, may have had the form of an Egyptian pylon.
