But my Chinese friends tell me that, while they find these 4 ⏐ BUSINESS LEADERSHIP IN CHINA Western works intellectually stimulating, there always seems to be something missing. Western concepts and leadership practices differ in their relevance to and workability in the Chinese context. It would be naïve for anyone to think otherwise.

As such, there are not enough people in China who know how to do this well. Therefore, leadership development often gets allocated to outside consultants, if it gets done at all. While the consultants can do a good job, it is not the same as having this built into the DNA of the corporate culture. Lack of Talent Internally. Chinese employees are among the brightest and the most hardworking in the world. But they are so young! Many Chinese managers have only a few years of work experience before they are asked to lead people on the job.

Property can be owned and is private. Only you can give permission to share it or to make it public. “China is not interested in building strong individuals—we had that in our history.
