15 The Statistical Model The planning methodology of a multivariate statistical investigation must aim for observations to result from a random sampling process. The following requirements must be satisfied: 1. sampling is random; 2. sampling does not depend on the properties of the sampled entities; and 3. sampling does not represent the personal bias of the investigator. There are many methods for ensuring randomness in the sampling of data. These randomization procedures fall into a branch of applied statistics known as statistical control.

If one were to look at a graph of a problem depicting the relation between variables, the depiction is somewhat oversimplified.
