THE fOUR THOUGHTS plained that we don't need to suffer (in the ordinary sense of the word) in order to reach enlightenment or any spiritual realization. Even though we don't have to suffer, we still need to understand suffering. The Buddha taught that the type of suffering varies according to the different realms of existence in samsara. The drawings in the "wheel of existences" 12 depict the suffering generally experienced by the living beings in each of the six realms. For example, humans and animals experience suffering differently.

There is no beginning either. Because we abhor suffering, we want to be free of it. But it will never happen unless we work on a proper solution or practice. The book then continues with Gampopa's teachings on the methods of liberation. We understand the conditions of suffering and that there is a way out. Because of impermanence, it follows then that liberation from suffering should be our main objective. We must stop wasting time. It is not difficult to see the suffering of samsara. There are solutions and remedies to help us cope with the various life situations.

See if we can make a connection to the meaning of the precious human life. From time to time, we do this. We do it in a very natural and spontaneous way. Very gradually, we will become clearer.
